Sorry it's been so long! Amidst house renovations, building a studio, photoshoots and jobs, we are re-branding our business and will eventually set up a new website and a new blog. So this one may be on a hiatus for a while. But I do have a quick chance to share this recent maternity session. So without further ado... Enjoy!

Well, hello, 2010! Happy New Year!

There I went neglecting my poor ole blog again. Forgive me? We've just been so busy preparing for a very BIG and exciting life change (details another day), and haven't had any time to share our shoots.. I have a lot to catch up on, including Peru! But none of that for now.

Since I've been doing a lot more blog reading than writing, I thought I'd share with you a few subscriptions that caught my heart in 2009--those that are NOT portrait photographers, but other sources of inspiration and glee. Some are mere photostreams while others are full-on multi-blog sites. Without further ado...

This site includes videos, design advice, and the most detailed accounts/set of instructions for every do-it-yourself home project under the sun!! Written by married couple Sherry and John, who have been working on their first home since 2006, this is a fantastic resource and online community for those of us crazy enough to take on home renovation.

4. Twenty Three

The tumblr of a twenty-something from India. Despite the cheesy quotes, I love getting updates on her photography posts. She digs up some cool stuff. What's a tumblr? I'm still not sure.

I think the sun went down at 4 today. I rubbed my frozen fingers waiting for my car to warm up and blasted the heat on my way home. It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, we were on a beautiful Floridian beach with my best friend Lauren and her family. It's even harder to believe that a quarter of a century ago, we were playing together at the beach as toddlers ourselves :) We miss them already!

Well, we're back from Peru and it was such a fun trip. But before I totally flood our online presence with travel pictures, I wanted to catch on up on at least a few of the shoots we did before we left. Here's Danielle.

We've had such a busy spring, I haven't really had a chance to document it... hopefully I can make it up to you by sharing some sassy boudoir! Among shoots and projects, I've decided to get in on the boudoir action.. independantly, of course- we made the conclusion that women would generally be more comfortable with working with another woman. But Matt has definitely helped with some ideas and legwork, so he deserves credit too. I'm really happy with the results! I couldn't help but share these pictures of the lovely Yahaira..

I rented a room at the Crown Plaza (room rentals are included with your boudoir package) and it ended up being pretty nice--and even more versatile than I expected.

In the midst of our adventures, we're also working on a new website (which will include a boudoir portfolio)... hence the transformation of our brand. Keep posted! :)

It's almost fair & flea market season!! We can't wait! Here's a model we recently had a shoot with... it felt so good to take the cameras outside for an entire afternoon. Matt found that shirt at a flea market last year, for I think $1. On the hanger, it looks like something I'd pay to get rid of.. but this is why Matt is a genius. He knew it would look great in pictures. We put her in a pair of my skinny jeans and boots, and ta-da! More to come :)

world pillowfight day 2009!

A few weeks ago, when Matt told me that April 4th was World Pillowfight Day and that we should attend in Boston, I thought he was kidding. Friday evening rolled around and it turned out our Saturday afternoon was free (and he assured me that it was real), so we decided to go!! Participants were instructed to show up at Christopher Columbus Park, look inconspicuous, and wait for "the signal."

A huge crowd of confused, curious, and excited-looking people gathered around us, including cops and reporters. Some were more conspicuous than others.

There were teams of fighters decked out in matching t-shirts and face paint, and those running solo in costumes with no particular theme other than downright fun.

Just as we were feeling the crowd's energy rising in preparation for battle, the signal was given and a flag was raised..

and all puffy madness broke loose!

introducing: the vintage camera purse

Greywood Designs (Matt's fashion venture) has a new project! Contemplating our rad vintage camera collection from the original brownies to movie cameras of the 50's and 60's, Matt was making cloth purses when he had this brilliant idea! I fell in love with them before he even made the first one. So far, he has only completed a few, most of which were given away as gifts. This is the last finished one we have at the moment, and it's already reserved. It was made with a yashica 8mm movie camera, circa 1959.

Some have custom-made camera straps, while others have traditional purse or handbag straps. We choose the color and pattern to compliment the mood of the camera.. or if you like, you can choose your own!

Each of them are hollowed out to make room for the essentials. There is a latch where you would have changed the film, which opens to the inner compartment.

Matt and I pretty much invited ourselves to Christina's rehearsal with Dance Company Worcester on Sunday night to do some action shots.... because dancers make THE best models!

It turns out that they rehearse in this amazing old warehouse in Hudson, and there were all of these big empty rooms for us to play in. Of course, we had to bust out Mr. Softbox.

It ALSO turns out the guy in the shorts was one of the breakdancers at our wedding!

The lovely and talented Christina herself did jumps for us in a dark room with random debris all over the floor... in her bare feet.

rescue me

I'm a volunteer for the Feline Adoption & Rescue Society, which has shelters in Cambridge and Framingham. In addition to caring for and playing with the kitties, I decided to offer my photography skills for the Petfinder profiles of new arrivals and the FARS website. (Check out their blog here).

This is Ginger. She was the hardest to shoot because she's very timid, and quite bothered by seeing and smelling other cats around her. But she loves to play and will be nice once you earn her trust. I think she knows how cute she is.

Silver will look deep into your eyes and silently woo you. Or telepathically make you his puppet. I'm not sure.

Mitsy just had kittens. You can tell by her expression, can't you?

Don't let his runny eyes fool you. Angus is an all-star.

I'm not sure where Boudicca came from, but it's probably royalty.

All of these adorable kitties need homes. Let me know if you're interested and I can give you some adoption information!

We just spent 4 days in beautiful, sunny San Diego with my brother-in-law and his family. I'm ready to move there.

Meet Bronson! He's 2 and half. He loves anything with wheels. If you just entered his house, and sit down on the couch, he'll ask you if you want anything to drink. He thinks EVERYTHING is funny. When his mom is wearing a cool outfit, he tells her so. If you hold him up, he can actually play pinball. When he's upset, he tries very hard not to cry, and the minute you say something funny he has forgotten all about it. When you're walking on the sidewalk and approach the street, he will remind you to stop and look both ways. He has an entire world of pretend in his back yard and he doesn't mind if you add to it, within reason. He's our nephew.

He insisted I smell the flowers.

We took a tour of the Stone Brewery in Escondido, and Bronson came along with his dad. When the guide asked the group if any of us did any home brewing, Bronson raised his hand.

Bronson and Uncle Matt were pretty much inseparable the entire time. They had story time every night before going to bed, and if Matt and I went out by ourselves, he would run to the door when we got back and say "Where were you, Uncle Matt? I looked everywhere for you!"

Over years of flea market and tag* sale going, we have gathered a nice collection of yummy old cameras. Mostly brownies, but some other fun ones too, including video cameras that look like they couldn't possibly do anything but knock someone out if you dropped them from a tall building. We were going to use them as centerpieces at our wedding reception, but decided on huge jars of candy instead (which everyone could share and enjoy). This is what happens when it snows and we can't go anywhere:

We've been buzz buzz buzzing with the holiday season, and one of our newest adventures was appearing on the cover of a magazine! The Parents & Kids December issue included a Wicked Local Toy Guide, so we followed these three beautiful sisters around with a camera at Stella Bella Toys in Burlington.

Parents & Kids is an award-winning monthly publication offering smart and fun parenting advice to over 60 communities in and around Boston.

One more photoshop creation.. while I was all up close and personal, Matt was on the other side of the hill getting these shots from afar. While I'm chasing the kid around, Matt's usually more hands-off.. but manages to get amazing portraits anyways.

I think he was the winner of today's portrait duel... but I'll get him next time.

In other amazing news, we went to an auction today (always a good time) and got a new photo booth!! We went with a Face Place, because of its super reliability and durable, true photobooth-esque design. (Lots of the modern ones just have a wrap-around curtain instead of the back wall.. not as nice of an experience, if you ask me). Here's what it looks like now.. although we plan on giving it a makeover with our own colors, style, and additional functions:

Photo Booth!!!

It all started earlier this year when I decided I wanted a photobooth for our wedding. After lots and lots of research, we realized how expensive it was to rent one, and didn't have the thousands of dollars to spare. Did that stop us? NO! We decided to build one of our own. Matt's brother Michael helped with the materials and Ben was great enough to lend us his lap-
top and help hook it up. Viola! Immediately, other people liked the idea for themselves, so we decided to give it an "upgrade" and make it a full-blown professional booth (with the button and everything).

When we got back from our honeymoon, we heard about Adam & Krista: a couple just like us, who really wanted one (in fact, it was the one thing Krista wanted on her big day).. so we rented it out to them, and stayed the night tending to it. What a blast! Here are my favorites from this crazy bunch.

What's next? It's a great-looking booth (lit sign and everything), but our plan is to build a new one that's more durable, with a lighter material and some hare-brain ideas rolling around in our heads late at night. We are currently booking for 2009.

..and we're official!

Yup, we're Mr. and Mrs. Griswold. It only took an orchard, an inflatable castle, a cotton candy machine, some breakdancers, a photobooth, and a few other simple necessities to get hitched loco-photographer-style. We did it and it was fantastic! Thank you Dorie for the beautiful wedding pictures. We <3 you.

In addition to wedding planning, honeymooning, and starting a photo booth business, our online-time has been limited by the inevitable switch to a more robust computer. I'm going to get us back on the planet this week: hopefully a site with all of our wedding photos, a site about our booth, and lots of catch-up blog posts with the photo-fun we had over the summer and this so-gorgeous-I-could-explode fall!

Poetry and Paint

For the past couple of months, Matt and I have been helping his wonderful and talented mother Denise Fontaine-Pincince with her first publication. She's a poet and a mixed-media artist. The collection in the book, with the title and motif "Laundry," couples each poem (derived from a true-life story) with a piece of her scrumptious recycled art.

She had her first show in Ware two weeks ago, selling several of the paintings and donating 100% of the proceeds to CARE. She also sold a number of books, and with our help launched her website:

We were lucky enough to have a shoot with an aspiring model on one of those recent warmer days, so for this particular look we took her down the street to a magnificent field. She was a natural, and I got to practice hair & makeup while Matt got to have more fun with styling (for the other looks, check out my model mayhem port).

Here are a couple from my shoot with Ellen. Matt did the wardrobe styling and shooting, my friend Jillian did hair and makeup... and I did the editing. Originally the idea was to make a composite with two of her and two of me in a single image.. but Matt and I agreed that we liked keeping each of us in a single photo alone as four duplicates. Time Travel

Matt's second cousin (perhaps removed) owns the amazing historical Somerville Victorian in which he grew up, and we were lucky enough to be invited along with Denise (his mother) to explore its contents which were equally fascinating. We were overwhelmed by the endless stacks of items filling the house as if everything had been put down after its last use half a century ago, and never again disturbed. It would have been impossible to photograph and learn about everything in just a day, but we plan on going back very soon.

Here's Tess, who we had to take care of a few weeks ago. At first we were apprehensive, but in the end we found her charming. She's half Chihuahua, half Dachshund, which you wouldn't think to cross.. but it's really a cute mix (at least in her case)!

I really liked how the pillow came out in this shot..

Too bad she peed on it. (We forgive her.)

Soap Stars strike again! This band has a new member, a new space, and as always, a great sound. They needed some quick pictures with the new drummer because they will be appearing shortly in Soap Opera Digest! I went down to their new rehearsal space and got a few shots. Fall Rewind

So, of course, we've both been busy as it is "that time of year" and we're keeping things fresh and exciting at PS. It's been an amazing holiday season. I get chills when I think about how far we've come photographically and as a business (not just Matt and I, but everybody there) and it's wonderful that everyone can keep pushing themselves and bringing endless new ideas to life! I love being in such an inspired environment, where everyone is willing to spread their creativity and knowledge and just be there for each other in every way possible and making even stress-provoking situations FUN. Speaking of which, I will definitely have my "Time Machine" action burned to disc for those of you that have requested it very soon... and if anyone else wants it, let me know!

Enough of my sappy banter. Let's see some pics!

Something Old, Something New

Typically, we don't "do" weddings.... but, last weekend my cousin was having a daytime reception (she had gotten married privately and later decided she wanted the celebration after all).. so of course, we agreed to get a few shots. Here's one I just finished editing, with an experimental look I thought I'd share.

You're It

Dorie Lynn, queen of online blogs and forums, has "tagged" us. In case she hasn't gotten you yet, the rules are: you write out 8 little known things about yourself, and then you "tag" someone else. Because I take care of the blog, I'm hoping Matt doesn't mind this kind of disclosure.. I'll be including some things about me, some about him, and some about both of us.

1. Instead of speaking, Matt sings at least once sentence every day. That's also on the list of reasons why I'm marrying him.

2. Late in my childhood, I developed a "lazy eye." It got worse and worse, and affected my vision, so it was surgically corrected when I was 8, and I had to wear "prism glasses" for a couple years after that. Needless to say, I was not popular.

3. Matt is trained in the art of dance.

4. A snack I have prepared and shamefully eaten on many a lonely night: Dry, broken up Ramen noodles with the powdered seasoning mixed in.

5. We are video game addicts. Systems of choice? Xbox and wii. We are both competitive.

6. When I was young, I wanted to be a poet. I won a number of state-wide poetry contests for students throughout elementary school and junior high. I still wrote in high school and college, but I kept it to myself (often I would stay up really late writing, and then sleep through my classes in the morning). I don't write poetry anymore, but that's not a bad thing to me because I've found other creative outlets.

7. Matt won the President's Award at Hallmark Institute of Photography. I never knew until he found the trophy in an old box.

8. When we get old, we want to buy an RV and travel around until we can't anymore.

And, a bonus little-known fact... he shot me last week!

A good friend of mine, Jillian Leverone, did my hair. She's a licensed hair stylist and make-up artist. She's amazing!

I just got back from the annual Murphy reunion at Topsail Beach in North Carolina. It's a beautiful, quiet little place for our us to gather, lay in the sun, play bocce, and carouse. Every year gets better and better. A new "baby rush" has begun, so I had a few new faces to clack my shutter at!

In the middle of this game, a fish dropped out of the sky and landed right beside the spectating women. I was just messing around when I took its picture, but I actually sort of like these (that's Uncle Brian holding the fish--he tried to throw it back to the seagull):

I have so many pictures from this vacation, so I thought I would pick out my favorites in pairs and post them that way. I started having some fun with it, and they were easier to upload. Starting with my adorable Auntie Terry and Uncle Mike ("Poo Pie"), skipping in the sand like a poo and pie should...

And then taking a direct route to Baby Land.. introducting Samantha Ally, my cousin's one-year-old princess:

As you can see, she gets her gorgeous looks from my cousin's wife Petra.. and the Murphy blue eyes.

At 7 months old, Kohen currently holds the title of Littlest Murph. Here he is with his cousin Sammy (I think she was more than willing to pass the torch)...

Sarah and Rob haven't had pictures together since their wedding, so they asked me to snap a few..

This was a special year. Not only did I have a great time as usual and enjoy the oppurtunity to spend an entire week with my relatives, but Matt took me for a walk on our last morning at the beach. Standing at the edge of the ocean, he pulled out a ring. We're getting married, and I couldn't imagine anything this perfect. I am very lucky.

After our recent trip to India (see link on the left),
the dashing and talented Matt Griswold and I decided to team up and put together a website.

However, until that's finished (or even beyond), I'm jumping on the blogger bandwagon. I'm just getting started, so please excuse the lack of bio information and whatnot... I'll have it all cleaned up eventually. Until then, enjoy these recent shots of my friends Rachel and Jillian (posted respectively).
